TCNF

Problem solving based on wide technical experience

TCNF captures a blend of my expertise in:

  • Technical Software
  • Coating/Printing
  • Nanostructures
  • Formulation

No-one has ever needed all the capabilities at the same time, but they tend to feed off each other.

The technical software skills are, perhaps, the key as they reflect my approach of taking the best-available theory and creating practical models rather than using mere intuition to find solutions to complex problems.

The technical software then helps to link, for example, fundamental aspects of formulations with an understanding of the mechanisms of coating and drying so that the trade-offs inherent in complex systems (such as organic photovoltaics) can be tackled in a coherent manner.

I have no particular interest in making small quantities of nanostructures: in a way it's too easy. My interest and skills are in "nanostructures by the kilometre". For this, my formulation, coating/printing and technical software skills are of great utility.

It's amazing how the combination generates new opportunities. Some discussions on the fluid dynamics of follicular drug delivery led me to apply HSP theory to skin delivery which in turn got me involved in microemulsions. Similarly, an interest in the theory of mud-cracking in nanoparticles resulted in a collaboration on the solubility properties of super-critical CO2. That's why I'm "TCNF".
